Kathleen Helewa is an independent consultant and trusted resource for educational leaders throughout the State. For nearly seven years, Kathleen worked for the New Jersey School Boards Association, serving as a highly successful Field Service Representative for over seventy school districts and charter schools in Northwestern New Jersey. She left the Association as Senior Manager of Field Services in 2023.
Kathleen has provided governance advice, best practices and presentations to school board members, superintendents and school business officials on a near daily basis. She has facilitated scores of strategic plans & renewals of strategic plans for school districts across New Jersey, and she also co-facilitated NJSBA’s own Strategic Plan in 2016, and again in 2022. Kathleen has completed numerous successful Superintendent Searches, providing crucial, confident guidance for Boards of Education in some of the largest urban school districts in the State, and some of the smallest and most rural.
Kathleen served on her own local school board for three terms. During her tenure, she actively participated in her District's inaugural Strategic Plan, as well as a search for an Interim Superintendent and a search for a permanent Superintendent. She served as Board Vice President, and chair of the Policy and Communications Committees, and ad-hoc Branding Committee.
